Kasey and Nate’s wedding was lovely. I’ve been sitting here trying to come up with the best words to describe it, and everything I can think of comes up a bit short. Suffice it to say, this was a beautiful wedding and a gorgeous couple, mixed with a tremendously gracious family and lots of laughter and goofiness. All some of my favorite things. I hope that Kasey, Nate and their families know how very special this wedding was for me, and that I feel tremendously blessed and honored to have been given the privilege of photographing it.

for little girls. Miss M is the third in her family, and she will make a beautiful new little sister to her two big brothers. I have been photographing this family for about 2 years, and it is always such a pleasure to spend time with them and document these sweet moments as their family grows. Newborn photographs will always be one of my favorite subjects. And I love it when the sessions come together exactly like this. I honestly couldn’t tell you exactly why, but several of the photographs from this session are some of my favorites I’ve taken in years.

Simple.

This blanket was made by a family member. I wish I had that sort of skill! When we wrapped it around her to take these photos, her mom and I remarked that she looked like cotton candy.

Toward the very end, I convinced a very tired momma to be in a few photos too. I’m so glad that she did. Because really, one of the most special parts of newborn sessions for me is capturing that connection, whether it is your first child or your third. And of course, the scale. The tiny-ness.

Middle brother was taking a nap and slept through the whole session, but M’s oldest brother did stop by to check out the action at the very end.

The wedding of Alison and Bob was a joy for me to photograph. There was so much love, fun and laughter that filled the entire day. I heard Alison say something to her bridesmaids about wanting to make sure she stopped, took a deep breath, and really felt the moments. To just revel in the pure joy of being married to “the one.” I think it’s safe to say that they both did just that, and I think that’s the simple reason why they couldn’t keep those smiles from their faces. There were a lot of photos that caught my eye as I was uploading, but these were my absolute top favorites from the day. Enjoy, and congratulations!

This post could also be affectionately referred to as “the session where I show that I’m really missing my boys.” This family was beyond adorable, and as you might be able to tell I was so in love with that little boy. His grumpy little man demeanor combined with his Batman cape was just too much for me, especially after a few days away from my own little grumpy superhero and mini superhero in training. The lovely mom is actually Jonathan Canlas’ sister-in-law, and is expecting another baby in a few short months. I can also testify to the fact that she is an amazing cook (Camille and Jonathan’s wife Callie cooked all the food for the FINDers — and it was all delicious). These are many of my favorite images of the entire workshop — I really wish I would have shot more black and white after seeing these!

One of my absolute, very favorite parts about being a photographer is going back at the end of the year and seeing where I’ve been. How I’ve grown and changed, and all the different amazing people I’ve met. This was quite a year. I don’t know if it’s just how I’m feeling right now or something that is in the air during my sessions lately, but in going over the images to pick some for the slideshow two words kept popping into my head. The first is CONNECTIONS. In all their various shapes and forms. Connections between children and parents, families, siblings, and even individual subjects and the camera. The other word is JOY. My goodness, there are some beautiful happy families out there. Here’s to you, and to a wonderful and blessed new year.

I shot a lot more on day two of Film is Not Dead. I guess part of it had to do with being more comfortable with my camera. I was also just awestruck by the gorgeous scenery at the location where we photographed these families (if you hadn’t guessed, day two was “family” session day). This lovely family had not one, not two, not even three, but FOUR boys. As you might imagine, craziness ensued. Love these.

Ah! I am not being great about blogging the rest of these images. I have the best of intentions, but you know how that goes… anyway, to increase my likelihood of blogging these, I’m going to do bigger posts. These are the rest of the couples from day one (aka the “engagement” shoot) in Heber, UT. These are the ones I love (the photos, not the people. Although the people were pretty darn sweet too). As always, straight out of the box (i.e. unedited but for the resizing).

Is it just me, or does everyone in Utah have simply amazing eyes? For real.

This is a macro lens and some remnants of Jack Frost’s visit to our window last night. I love the look of window frost. Chilly and warm at the same time.
