welcome.

Hello and welcome to my photoblog. I am delighted to have you here! This blog serves as a way of sharing my most recent photo sessions with clients and their family and friends, and is also the first place to hear recent announcements about the studio as well as special blog-reader only discounts.

I am a primarily natural light portrait photographer based out of Madison, Wisconsin. My focus is on babies, children and families, although I also love to shoot a limited number of weddings per year. My portrait sessions take place entirely on location -- either at your home or at another location around Madison. I love to explore new places, so I'm very open to your suggestions. And of course, I have some favorite spots that I'm always ready to explore again as well.

In addition to my blog, please also check out my main website (it is the "my website" link on the menu above). If you have any questions or would like to book a session, please click on the "contact me" link in the menu above to send me an e-mail. Thanks again for stopping by, and please enjoy your visit!

style.

My approach toward photography is deceptively simple: catch real moments of your children really being themselves. Silly giggles, sweet kisses from mommy, tickles from a big sister, laughing while watching doggie run through the park... These are the moments that make up real life. These are the moments from childhood that pass by all too fast. And these moments, to me, are where the real beauty of childhood resides. The same philosophy governs my approach to wedding photography.

My style is largely photojournalistic and non-obtrusive, while at the same time I am always working to create beautiful and lasting memories of life as it unfolds. The most common words used to describe my photographs are the ones I have chosen as the tagline for my studio: Modern. Fun. Real. Life. People often comment that my photographs have a sense of warmth and emotion to them -- which I consider the highest compliment possible.

Yearly Archives: 2008

Snuggly.

I already did my retrospective a few posts back, so I’ll just mention here that this morning I photographed my last photoshoot of the year. Whew! What a wonderful way to end the year. Meet 8 day old E. She is just about the most precious thing in the entire world. I was in love...

Four under one…

… and another just over two! These photos were so much fun to take. I had photographed one of the tiny little guys about a month ago when he was a newborn. His mother’s family was having a get-together in Madison, and they asked if I could take some photos of the children as...

Favorite moments of 2008.

First an administrative note: The studio will be closed from this weekend through January 5 to allow me to celebrate the holidays with my family. I will be checking e-mails throughout the holidays, but it may take me just a bit longer than usual to get back to you. I also have some wonderful photos...

A few of my favorite things.

This little cutie is another one of my “Watch Me Grow” babies… you might (or might not!) recognize her from her newborn session a few months ago. She’s now over three months old, and has changed so much. Although her hair and her baby pudge remains much the same (yay!)
So the theme of this post...

Snow Dog.

Since it’s only December and it seems to fit with the holiday mood, I can admit that I sort of enjoy it. It’s a different story come around February or so. Then I’m ready for summer and warm weather. My dog on the other hand? He’s frankly happy to be anywhere I am. And he...

Not quite so little anymore.

This session was with a 5 month old little girl who I photographed a few months back when she was only a few days old. I love to watch my clients grow up… I think it’s one of the best parts of my job, in fact. Miss M’s parents signed up for the “Watch Me...

Thanks. Giving.

I hope that all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. I know that I certainly ate my fair share (and then some!) of tasty food. We also made cookies and candies and I’m trying to give them away to anyone who will take them… just so I don’t eat them all! It’s hard to...

Portrait of a 10 month old.

It has been too long since I have blogged! Can you believe that it’s almost turkey day already? Where did November go? Meet P. He is ten months old, and was such an energetic little man. This session took place just about two weeks ago, on one of those cold gray days that makes...

9 days old.

It has been a little while since I’ve photographed a newborn, and I’ve really missed it! This is baby N, who was just nine days old when I took these photos yesterday. He was born on election day — but don’t worry, his parents and grandparents all did their civic duty by voting early. Little...

That toddlin’ town.

A few more photos from the session I mentioned the other day… I don’t normally travel outside of southcentral Wisconsin for my photo sessions, but this one was an exception. Little G is one of my favorite models, and just so happens to be about a week younger than my son. Her mom and I...
