welcome.

Hello and welcome to my photoblog. I am delighted to have you here! This blog serves as a way of sharing my most recent photo sessions with clients and their family and friends, and is also the first place to hear recent announcements about the studio as well as special blog-reader only discounts.

I am a primarily natural light portrait photographer based out of Madison, Wisconsin. My focus is on babies, children and families, although I also love to shoot a limited number of weddings per year. My portrait sessions take place entirely on location -- either at your home or at another location around Madison. I love to explore new places, so I'm very open to your suggestions. And of course, I have some favorite spots that I'm always ready to explore again as well.

In addition to my blog, please also check out my main website (it is the "my website" link on the menu above). If you have any questions or would like to book a session, please click on the "contact me" link in the menu above to send me an e-mail. Thanks again for stopping by, and please enjoy your visit!

style.

My approach toward photography is deceptively simple: catch real moments of your children really being themselves. Silly giggles, sweet kisses from mommy, tickles from a big sister, laughing while watching doggie run through the park... These are the moments that make up real life. These are the moments from childhood that pass by all too fast. And these moments, to me, are where the real beauty of childhood resides. The same philosophy governs my approach to wedding photography.

My style is largely photojournalistic and non-obtrusive, while at the same time I am always working to create beautiful and lasting memories of life as it unfolds. The most common words used to describe my photographs are the ones I have chosen as the tagline for my studio: Modern. Fun. Real. Life. People often comment that my photographs have a sense of warmth and emotion to them -- which I consider the highest compliment possible.

The beautiful flowers of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Warning: this post is photo-heavy!
Who knew that Las Vegas — land of exotic dancers, casinos, and neon — could be the source of so many beautiful flowers? It was a happy surprise. Most of these were taken in the Conservancy of the Bellagio — a must-see for anyone who appreciates floral design even the smallest...

The eyes have it.

I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before, but one of the things I *love* about photographing the little ones is their big, beautiful eyes. It’s like you can almost see them learning new things every minute, as they take in the world around them. In my case, what they’re usually “taking in” is the big lens...

Signs of spring…

… and fun with my new equipment!
I got a new camera (a Canon 40D, for those who are interested) to act as my backup camera to my baby (the Canon 5D) a while back — but I hadn’t really gotten around to playing around with it yet. What on earth was I thinking waiting so...

Sunday in the Park with AK.

Here we go… the last sneak peek of my photo sessions from last weekend. As I write this, it is cold and rainy and most assuredly yucky outside, so it’s nice to sit back and look at some photos of sunshine from just a few days ago. Reminds me that spring, real spring, will be...

Gorgeous, amazing little girl.

The beautiful weather held up, and we had sunshine and spring-like weather on Sunday. We went to a local park, and it was so fun to chase this little girl around while she explored the place. These are some of my favorite photos to date… I just love her eyes, and her smile, and...

Busy little man.

Here in Wisconsin, it appears (fingers crossed) that spring might finally be here! I hope so. The snow is almost all gone from the backyard, and the crocuses are starting to pop up in the flower bed. I was so happy the weather was beautiful this weekend, because I had photo sessions scheduled for THREE...

Adorable, adorable, and even more adorable.

This past weekend, I also had the pleasure of photographing one of the cutest, smily-est, clowniest little girls I have ever met! G is just a week younger than my own little boy, so it was an age that I’m pretty familiar with and that I really love. At 8 months old, babies...
