welcome.

Hello and welcome to my photoblog. I am delighted to have you here! This blog serves as a way of sharing my most recent photo sessions with clients and their family and friends, and is also the first place to hear recent announcements about the studio as well as special blog-reader only discounts.

I am a primarily natural light portrait photographer based out of Madison, Wisconsin. My focus is on babies, children and families, although I also love to shoot a limited number of weddings per year. My portrait sessions take place entirely on location -- either at your home or at another location around Madison. I love to explore new places, so I'm very open to your suggestions. And of course, I have some favorite spots that I'm always ready to explore again as well.

In addition to my blog, please also check out my main website (it is the "my website" link on the menu above). If you have any questions or would like to book a session, please click on the "contact me" link in the menu above to send me an e-mail. Thanks again for stopping by, and please enjoy your visit!

style.

My approach toward photography is deceptively simple: catch real moments of your children really being themselves. Silly giggles, sweet kisses from mommy, tickles from a big sister, laughing while watching doggie run through the park... These are the moments that make up real life. These are the moments from childhood that pass by all too fast. And these moments, to me, are where the real beauty of childhood resides. The same philosophy governs my approach to wedding photography.

My style is largely photojournalistic and non-obtrusive, while at the same time I am always working to create beautiful and lasting memories of life as it unfolds. The most common words used to describe my photographs are the ones I have chosen as the tagline for my studio: Modern. Fun. Real. Life. People often comment that my photographs have a sense of warmth and emotion to them -- which I consider the highest compliment possible.

Another sweet newborn.

I have been scheduling all kinds of newborn sessions lately — hello babies! These are some of my favorite sessions, because they are so unpredictable. Sometimes you have a sleepy baby, sometimes one who is wide awake. And usually, actually, you end up with a little bit of both if you are patient enough.  Meet...

Thank you, Elizabeth Anne Designs Library.

This evening, during a commercial break on Project Runway, I decided to do a little google search on my name. It’s always interesting to see what comes up, and most of the hits are not actually for me. But today, much to my surprise, my search brought up a link from the Elizabeth Anne Designs...

California Dreaming?

A while back, I photographed this adorable little blonde 16 month old and his family at Olbrich Gardens here in Madison. It was another one of those summer evening sessions, and this time the weather and the light was just golden delicious. It’s funny, because we had actually discussed postponing the session earlier in the...

Just one, and an update.

The photo above is from a recent newborn session, and I love it so much I just may enlarge it for my studio office. The funny thing is that we didn’t exactly place him in the basket that way. He wiggled and rearranged himself, and the end result was just perfect. Funny how those things...

Times two.

What do you get when you combine a 3 year old, a 1 year old, and a photo session? You get some silliness, some funny faces, and lots of cute little smiles.  I was excited when I was contacted to do another brother photo session. This one was a little different than the last since...

A boy and his teddy bear.

Since I announced with my last blog post that I am officially done with weddings for the season, I figure that it’s about time to update the blog with some of the many children and newborn sessions that I have also been photographing over the last few weeks. My apologies for taking so long to...

Spectacular finale.

This past Saturday, I photographed the wedding of Jennifer & Andrew. It was my final wedding of 2008. And wow, was it ever a wonderful way to end this wedding season. The bride and groom? Beautiful (inside and out). The wedding attire? Fabulous, especially the shoes and sunglasses. The venues? Divine, and I especially enjoyed...

Door County: Romantic Joy.

On 8.08.08, one of the more popular wedding dates of the year, I was up in Door County photographing the beautiful wedding of a very cool couple. I had actually never been to Door County before, and I tell you… I am now in LOVE and looking for any excuse to go back up there...

A little bit of love.

I have another item to add to my constantly growing list of things to be thankful for. And that is the fact that somehow, through the magic of the internet and wonderful referrals from past clients and friends, I have managed to have some of the most fun, sweet, and lovely couples ask me to...
