welcome.

Hello and welcome to my photoblog. I am delighted to have you here! This blog serves as a way of sharing my most recent photo sessions with clients and their family and friends, and is also the first place to hear recent announcements about the studio as well as special blog-reader only discounts.

I am a primarily natural light portrait photographer based out of Madison, Wisconsin. My focus is on babies, children and families, although I also love to shoot a limited number of weddings per year. My portrait sessions take place entirely on location -- either at your home or at another location around Madison. I love to explore new places, so I'm very open to your suggestions. And of course, I have some favorite spots that I'm always ready to explore again as well.

In addition to my blog, please also check out my main website (it is the "my website" link on the menu above). If you have any questions or would like to book a session, please click on the "contact me" link in the menu above to send me an e-mail. Thanks again for stopping by, and please enjoy your visit!

style.

My approach toward photography is deceptively simple: catch real moments of your children really being themselves. Silly giggles, sweet kisses from mommy, tickles from a big sister, laughing while watching doggie run through the park... These are the moments that make up real life. These are the moments from childhood that pass by all too fast. And these moments, to me, are where the real beauty of childhood resides. The same philosophy governs my approach to wedding photography.

My style is largely photojournalistic and non-obtrusive, while at the same time I am always working to create beautiful and lasting memories of life as it unfolds. The most common words used to describe my photographs are the ones I have chosen as the tagline for my studio: Modern. Fun. Real. Life. People often comment that my photographs have a sense of warmth and emotion to them -- which I consider the highest compliment possible.

Baby blues.

Remember how I said that all newborns sleep eventually? Well, I don’t think that little J did… at least not until the end of his session. That hardly mattered, though, because when he was awake he was such a curious and happy little guy (at least, most of the time. Except for when he had...

Madison (love).

This past Saturday, I shot an engagement session with Erin and Brett in downtown Madison. They are a very fun couple who are actually getting married in Kauai, Hawaii this winter (unfortunately I’m not going to be taking their wedding photos!). They both graduated from Wisconsin, and have lived here for years. So they thought...

Charming, adorable, precious little one.

I actually had to do a thesaurus search for synonyms for “sweet” in order to come up with words to describe this tiny little newborn. She was only five days old at the time of our session. So very cuddlesome, cute, delightful, devine, irresistible…

Her older sibling is a beagle. Can you tell?

Welcome to the world,...

A marathon photoshoot, of sorts.

The other day, I had one of the coolest, most unique photo experiences of my life. For years I have been getting my hair done at the Robins Nest V salon in Milton. I love it there — the stylists are so friendly and very skilled. I end up with much better cuts and color...

The sweetest thing.

Next up… another cute newborn! Little A is another one of my “Baby Sprouts” babies — I photographed her mom’s maternity session a few months back, and I’ll be photographing little A two more times in the next year. I love it when parents book the first year package, because it is so amazing to...

What a difference a few months makes.

You might remember this lovely mama from my maternity photo post a few months ago. Of course I knew when her little twins came along they were destined to be as gorgeous as their parents — and they certainly are! Meet sweet little A and L. Cute beyond all words. Congratulations to the newly expanded...

Babies and toddlers and dogs… oh my!

I’ve photographed quite a few sibling groups in the last few months, and I’ve noticed that I’ve had more than a couple sets of 1 year olds and 3 year olds. I won’t lie — it can be a little challenging trying to hold the attention of a little guy who just wants to crawl...

Dos, Deux, Zwei… two!

First of all, I apologize for my absence the last few days. We were on vacation in the Outer Banks of North Carolina through yesterday. It was an amazing trip. And now that I’m back, I have a bunch of photo sessions to finish up editing and get out the door. I am also a...

Little redhead.

A just turned one, so her parents asked me to take some photos in a nearby playground for her one year session. She’s certainly a cutie — and her coloring is just gorgeous! As an Irish lass myself, I have always loved redheads. A also recently learned to walk. You’d never guess that it’s new...

Oh, baby.

Warning: this blog post contains *more* photos of cute newborn babies. Look at your own risk… this one is seriously adorable.

This little cutie is baby A. At the time of this photo session, he was only 5 days old. And what a sweetie he was throughout the whole session! I can’t think of much else...
