welcome.

Hello and welcome to my photoblog. I am delighted to have you here! This blog serves as a way of sharing my most recent photo sessions with clients and their family and friends, and is also the first place to hear recent announcements about the studio as well as special blog-reader only discounts.

I am a primarily natural light portrait photographer based out of Madison, Wisconsin. My focus is on babies, children and families, although I also love to shoot a limited number of weddings per year. My portrait sessions take place entirely on location -- either at your home or at another location around Madison. I love to explore new places, so I'm very open to your suggestions. And of course, I have some favorite spots that I'm always ready to explore again as well.

In addition to my blog, please also check out my main website (it is the "my website" link on the menu above). If you have any questions or would like to book a session, please click on the "contact me" link in the menu above to send me an e-mail. Thanks again for stopping by, and please enjoy your visit!

style.

My approach toward photography is deceptively simple: catch real moments of your children really being themselves. Silly giggles, sweet kisses from mommy, tickles from a big sister, laughing while watching doggie run through the park... These are the moments that make up real life. These are the moments from childhood that pass by all too fast. And these moments, to me, are where the real beauty of childhood resides. The same philosophy governs my approach to wedding photography.

My style is largely photojournalistic and non-obtrusive, while at the same time I am always working to create beautiful and lasting memories of life as it unfolds. The most common words used to describe my photographs are the ones I have chosen as the tagline for my studio: Modern. Fun. Real. Life. People often comment that my photographs have a sense of warmth and emotion to them -- which I consider the highest compliment possible.

Um, wow.

Ok, when I first was drafting my contest post (below), I seriously debated with almost adding an additional line in the rules section of my contest post to say “must receive at least 10 votes total to win” because I thought I might end up with 30 votes or so tops. At last count, I...

The big photo contest!

There are a couple of things in the works around the studio, and to get everything put together I am going to need some help from my readers. So I hereby announce, the big photo contest!
This post contains 15 of my very favorite images from 2008 — the ones I think would look awesome if...

Autumn with the Animals.

It’s almost Halloween! I have to admit that even as a full-grown adult (I guess…) Halloween is still one of my favorite holidays. I especially enjoy the little kids in costumes and all the fun decorations. I’ve recently signed up to volunteer with the Dane County Humane Society to take photographs of some of their...

One of my favorites.

Time for more photos from the 18 month session that I teased you about the other day. This little miss is one of my favorite little girls ever. She has the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen, bar none. Keep in mind when you are viewing these photos (including the one above) that I...

Beyond words.

Once again (and I know I’m going to start sounding like a broken record here soon), I bring you a post with a ton of images. I just couldn’t narrow down my favorites any more than this. This maternity session took place about a week and a half ago, shortly before we left for a...

A girl’s best friend.

I don’t think it’s any secret that I’m a huge dog lover. And since my son was born, one of the things I’ve enjoyed is all the dog-related clothing options. Cute dog hoodie? Got it. Doggie pal overalls? Of course. At the same time, I noticed the absence of such items for the little girls....

I couldn’t resist.

Whew… it’s been a busy couple of weeks, but it’s all worth it for the chance to shoot outside in one of the most beautiful autumn seasons I can remember for some time. I know I won’t get a chance to edit this whole session right away, but I also know that the momma of...

Gorgeous.

I can’t think of any better word to describe this maternity session. It goes without saying that the family was beautiful. Since the days are getting shorter, this was also one of my last early evening sessions of the year — we snuck in the outdoor shots during the half hour before the sunset.

These next...

The epitome of autumn.

I am loving the fall leaves and the warm golden color that the sun has these days. I had a photo session last weekend with L, who is just turned 2 years old. Her parents and I decided to take photos in a nearby state park. I admit that park of the allure of this...

The question.

There are going to be a bunch of photos in this post, and it might be a little more wordy than some. But I promise you, in the end, it will be worth it. So please, sit down and grab a refreshing beverage. I’ll wait…
A few weeks ago I was contacted by a woman who...
