welcome.

Hello and welcome to my photoblog. I am delighted to have you here! This blog serves as a way of sharing my most recent photo sessions with clients and their family and friends, and is also the first place to hear recent announcements about the studio as well as special blog-reader only discounts.

I am a primarily natural light portrait photographer based out of Madison, Wisconsin. My focus is on babies, children and families, although I also love to shoot a limited number of weddings per year. My portrait sessions take place entirely on location -- either at your home or at another location around Madison. I love to explore new places, so I'm very open to your suggestions. And of course, I have some favorite spots that I'm always ready to explore again as well.

In addition to my blog, please also check out my main website (it is the "my website" link on the menu above). If you have any questions or would like to book a session, please click on the "contact me" link in the menu above to send me an e-mail. Thanks again for stopping by, and please enjoy your visit!

style.

My approach toward photography is deceptively simple: catch real moments of your children really being themselves. Silly giggles, sweet kisses from mommy, tickles from a big sister, laughing while watching doggie run through the park... These are the moments that make up real life. These are the moments from childhood that pass by all too fast. And these moments, to me, are where the real beauty of childhood resides. The same philosophy governs my approach to wedding photography.

My style is largely photojournalistic and non-obtrusive, while at the same time I am always working to create beautiful and lasting memories of life as it unfolds. The most common words used to describe my photographs are the ones I have chosen as the tagline for my studio: Modern. Fun. Real. Life. People often comment that my photographs have a sense of warmth and emotion to them -- which I consider the highest compliment possible.

3 dogs, 3 cats, 2 rats and a bunny later…

This morning I had the incredibly awesome opportunity to photograph some super cute animals at the Dane County Humane Society for one of their upcoming projects (details on that soon).  All of the animals I photographed were either currently up for adoption or had been adopted previously from the shelter. We had a pretty wide...

Born a fighter.

I’m very excited to bring you newborn photos of sweet Mr. B. Not only is he one of the cutest (that hair! those lips!) and most charming babies I have ever met, but he is also such a miracle. His mother is a friend of mine, and she went into pre-term labor about midway through...

Fun and colorful family session.

I was contacted a while back by a woman who lived out east. Her twin sister lives in Madison with her two kids, and she wanted to set up a photo session with both sisters and all three of their children. I loved the idea. I know firsthand how tough it can be to live...

Just one…

ps. This little girl was one of my very first newborns, and I’ve photographed her several...

Another sweet little man.

It’s funny, because my photo sessions seem to follow their own little trends. For a while back in January, I had a lot of newborn sessions all in a row. Lately I’ve had several 6 month old boys. Not that I’m complaining! It’s just funny how that works out sometimes. This is C,...

Maternity in black and white (and a bit of color).

I love black and white photography. I also love that, thanks to the beauty of digital photography, I can be indecisive at the time I’m taking the photographs and later on decide which to convert to black and white. Sometimes people ask me how I decide which photos to convert. Honestly, when I’m going through...

Sweet and happy little man.

I photographed little A when he was a newborn, and he recently came down to the studio for his 6 month photo session. I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before, but I LOVE this age. Such a happy little guy. Lots of eye contact. And to get a smile, we just had to keep holding new...

Say “Zai Jian” to winter.

I’m hoping that by writing it down here, that the statement above will come true. I thought we might have been done with snow altogether, but this weekend we got a bit more. Thankfully, it was nearly 50 degrees today so most of it melted away. Good riddance! As my final goodbye to winter 08-09,...
