welcome.

Hello and welcome to my photoblog. I am delighted to have you here! This blog serves as a way of sharing my most recent photo sessions with clients and their family and friends, and is also the first place to hear recent announcements about the studio as well as special blog-reader only discounts.

I am a primarily natural light portrait photographer based out of Madison, Wisconsin. My focus is on babies, children and families, although I also love to shoot a limited number of weddings per year. My portrait sessions take place entirely on location -- either at your home or at another location around Madison. I love to explore new places, so I'm very open to your suggestions. And of course, I have some favorite spots that I'm always ready to explore again as well.

In addition to my blog, please also check out my main website (it is the "my website" link on the menu above). If you have any questions or would like to book a session, please click on the "contact me" link in the menu above to send me an e-mail. Thanks again for stopping by, and please enjoy your visit!

style.

My approach toward photography is deceptively simple: catch real moments of your children really being themselves. Silly giggles, sweet kisses from mommy, tickles from a big sister, laughing while watching doggie run through the park... These are the moments that make up real life. These are the moments from childhood that pass by all too fast. And these moments, to me, are where the real beauty of childhood resides. The same philosophy governs my approach to wedding photography.

My style is largely photojournalistic and non-obtrusive, while at the same time I am always working to create beautiful and lasting memories of life as it unfolds. The most common words used to describe my photographs are the ones I have chosen as the tagline for my studio: Modern. Fun. Real. Life. People often comment that my photographs have a sense of warmth and emotion to them -- which I consider the highest compliment possible.

summer.

On an absolutely gorgeous and very bright (check out the shadows!) morning a few days ago, I spent an enjoyable couple of hours walking around the city that I love and photographing a couple that drove all the way down from Minneapolis for their session. I’ll be shooting their wedding next year, so it was...

Sweet little girl.

I was fortunate enough to photograph two little newborn girls last week, and both of them were adorable as could be and very good sleepers. Lucky me! Meet Miss M. She was wide awake and curious at the beginning of our session, but after a little snack and some warm blankets, I think she snoozed...

Just one little peek…

… at a family session from this morning. Because I saw this one and it made me smile. 14 months, 18 months, and 3 years. They are cousins, and oh my — they were fun!

Glowing at 32 weeks.

I’m doing something right now that I don’t usually do, and that’s posting my sneak peek of photos on the very same day that I take them. I haven’t photographed a maternity couple in a little while (ok, only about a month… but still) and the couple I had into the studio today was simply...

Squishy little wonder.

Meet L, who was 15 days old at the time of our in-studio newborn session. I have a special affection for Miss L, because she was born on my birthday! When she arrived for her session, she was so sleepy and content, and was happy to allow me to move her from beanbag to little...

Funny faces, continued.

I was just finishing up the editing on the newborn session I shared a few days ago, and I realized that although I discussed the many funny faces of Mr. C — I didn’t actually include any in the blog post. And while editing, I came across this series of photos, all taken within about...

bébé. bambino. baby.

This little man was just about two weeks old for his newborn photo session. You might recognize his parents from their maternity session I held in my studio a few months back. Prior to this session his mother had told me that he liked to make funny faces, and he really did make me...

Beautiful.

On Saturday, I photographed the lovely wedding of Dizzy & Andy. It was rather an unconventional wedding, since it was held at noon with an afternoon luncheon reception. But it seemed to suit the bride and groom just perfectly, which is always my very favorite type of wedding to attend. The weather could not...

Miracle baby.

Meet H. He will be turning one year old very shortly, and he is a little miracle. He was born very early, and spent several months in the NICU. Happily, he is a fighter. And with the love and support of his family, he is now doing so well! It was such a pleasure to...
