welcome.

Hello and welcome to my photoblog. I am delighted to have you here! This blog serves as a way of sharing my most recent photo sessions with clients and their family and friends, and is also the first place to hear recent announcements about the studio as well as special blog-reader only discounts.

I am a primarily natural light portrait photographer based out of Madison, Wisconsin. My focus is on babies, children and families, although I also love to shoot a limited number of weddings per year. My portrait sessions take place entirely on location -- either at your home or at another location around Madison. I love to explore new places, so I'm very open to your suggestions. And of course, I have some favorite spots that I'm always ready to explore again as well.

In addition to my blog, please also check out my main website (it is the "my website" link on the menu above). If you have any questions or would like to book a session, please click on the "contact me" link in the menu above to send me an e-mail. Thanks again for stopping by, and please enjoy your visit!

style.

My approach toward photography is deceptively simple: catch real moments of your children really being themselves. Silly giggles, sweet kisses from mommy, tickles from a big sister, laughing while watching doggie run through the park... These are the moments that make up real life. These are the moments from childhood that pass by all too fast. And these moments, to me, are where the real beauty of childhood resides. The same philosophy governs my approach to wedding photography.

My style is largely photojournalistic and non-obtrusive, while at the same time I am always working to create beautiful and lasting memories of life as it unfolds. The most common words used to describe my photographs are the ones I have chosen as the tagline for my studio: Modern. Fun. Real. Life. People often comment that my photographs have a sense of warmth and emotion to them -- which I consider the highest compliment possible.

Cuddly.

This is Mr. W. He was about a month old for his newborn session. You can sort of tell that he was a big older (as if a month old is that old!) by the fact that he’s awake in most of the photos with mom and dad. But he was so cute with his...

Lovely family.

I photographed this family a while back as a combination studio/outdoor session. It worked out really well for this particular family — we started indoors, and switched it up about midway through to the lakefront just outside the studio.  This managed to keep everyone, particularly their adorable 3 year old daughter, entertained. This is a...

by popular demand…

I promised that I would post more photos from Mike and Katie’s wedding this week, and judging by the comments there are some eager readers out there! So without further ado, I bring you (with no commentary to interrupt the story…) the wedding day of Mike and Katie. Enjoy! (and be forewarned… there are a...

mr. a’s third session.

On a rainy and overcast day a while back, I ventured to the Mitchell Park Domes to photograph little Mr. A on the occasion of his being approximately 9 months old and extremely adorable. A is one of my baby plan babies, and it is always a delight for me to see his smiley little...

brothers and sisters.

Here’s a bit of trivia for you: I am an only child. I come from a big Irish Catholic family, so I have a lot of first cousins… but I have no brothers or sisters myself.  Especially now that I’m older, I really wish I did. So another part of photography that I really enjoy...

congratulations to katie and mike!

I had to share this tiny little sneak peek from a gorgeous wedding that I photographed this past weekend. This couple was so obviously completely in love… the groom actually teased me for tearing up a bit during their speeches. I am a sap — I fully admit it.  Look for more photos from the...

bundle of energy.

It’s funny how photo sessions seem to go in spurts. I’ll photograph 3 newborns in a week, then 3 six month olds… and lately the common trend has been 3 year old girls. It’s a fun age… not the easiest generally from a photographer’s standpoint, but always entertaining and burns off the calories. This...

prepare yourself.

There is an overabundance of cuteness headed your way over the next week or so. I know I have been a bad blogger, but the reason for that is that I’ve been really busy with photo sessions! (good excuse?) And what makes me really happy is that we’ve been able to go outside again. Don’t...
