welcome.

Hello and welcome to my photoblog. I am delighted to have you here! This blog serves as a way of sharing my most recent photo sessions with clients and their family and friends, and is also the first place to hear recent announcements about the studio as well as special blog-reader only discounts.

I am a primarily natural light portrait photographer based out of Madison, Wisconsin. My focus is on babies, children and families, although I also love to shoot a limited number of weddings per year. My portrait sessions take place entirely on location -- either at your home or at another location around Madison. I love to explore new places, so I'm very open to your suggestions. And of course, I have some favorite spots that I'm always ready to explore again as well.

In addition to my blog, please also check out my main website (it is the "my website" link on the menu above). If you have any questions or would like to book a session, please click on the "contact me" link in the menu above to send me an e-mail. Thanks again for stopping by, and please enjoy your visit!

style.

My approach toward photography is deceptively simple: catch real moments of your children really being themselves. Silly giggles, sweet kisses from mommy, tickles from a big sister, laughing while watching doggie run through the park... These are the moments that make up real life. These are the moments from childhood that pass by all too fast. And these moments, to me, are where the real beauty of childhood resides. The same philosophy governs my approach to wedding photography.

My style is largely photojournalistic and non-obtrusive, while at the same time I am always working to create beautiful and lasting memories of life as it unfolds. The most common words used to describe my photographs are the ones I have chosen as the tagline for my studio: Modern. Fun. Real. Life. People often comment that my photographs have a sense of warmth and emotion to them -- which I consider the highest compliment possible.

little boy blue.

This is Mr. J. I photographed his newborn session just about a year ago, and now he’s already a year old. I have to admit, one of my favorite parts about being a photographer is being able to watch the little ones grow up. Now that I’ve been in business for a while, it’s...

little miss serious.

Meet S, who has just turned one year old. She has delightful curly hair, beautiful brown eyes, and a very “old soul” way about her. Her parents told me that she tended to take photo sessions very seriously, and that she did.

I really love the lighting and shadows in this next one. Sometimes (ok, all...

So sweet.

Just one, from a newborn session in the studio this afternoon. It isn’t all that often that I am lucky enough to photograph a newborn session with older siblings, and I love the emotion and connection here. This is family.

the smiley baby and the rockstar.

Time for 6 month photos of Miss E, one of my favorite little girls… with some bonus photos of her super cool 2.5 year old brother. I won’t even bother talking again about how much I love this age. Because really, if you have a baby who looks like this for 95% of her...

mr e. and miss e.

Time for the photo session of Mr. E and his little sister, Miss E. They came into the studio for a session a while back, and it was pretty fun going through these photos and remembering the craziness that morning. I’m feeling short on words today, so I’ll just let the cuteness of these...

Little firecracker.

Belated 4th of July greetings to all of you! I hope that you all had a fantastic holiday, full of fireworks (or, as my 2 year old calls them, “the works!”), family and friends. My apologies for not blogging recently… I have lots to share with you, but I was out of the studio...

Congratulations Katie & Kyle!

This was my second wedding in June, and also my second wedding that month with a bride named Katie. We were a little worried all day that the clouds would turn into rain, but thankfully the weather cooperated all throughout our photos.  It was a pleasure to spend the day with Katie & Kyle. Their...

Spring. Green.

It was a beautiful summer evening when I photographed little Mr. W and his beautiful family. This session took place in Spring Green, at a lovely little spot I had never been to before. It had special meaning to the family since it was the same place where W’s parents had gotten married five years...
