welcome.

Hello and welcome to my photoblog. I am delighted to have you here! This blog serves as a way of sharing my most recent photo sessions with clients and their family and friends, and is also the first place to hear recent announcements about the studio as well as special blog-reader only discounts.

I am a primarily natural light portrait photographer based out of Madison, Wisconsin. My focus is on babies, children and families, although I also love to shoot a limited number of weddings per year. My portrait sessions take place entirely on location -- either at your home or at another location around Madison. I love to explore new places, so I'm very open to your suggestions. And of course, I have some favorite spots that I'm always ready to explore again as well.

In addition to my blog, please also check out my main website (it is the "my website" link on the menu above). If you have any questions or would like to book a session, please click on the "contact me" link in the menu above to send me an e-mail. Thanks again for stopping by, and please enjoy your visit!

style.

My approach toward photography is deceptively simple: catch real moments of your children really being themselves. Silly giggles, sweet kisses from mommy, tickles from a big sister, laughing while watching doggie run through the park... These are the moments that make up real life. These are the moments from childhood that pass by all too fast. And these moments, to me, are where the real beauty of childhood resides. The same philosophy governs my approach to wedding photography.

My style is largely photojournalistic and non-obtrusive, while at the same time I am always working to create beautiful and lasting memories of life as it unfolds. The most common words used to describe my photographs are the ones I have chosen as the tagline for my studio: Modern. Fun. Real. Life. People often comment that my photographs have a sense of warmth and emotion to them -- which I consider the highest compliment possible.

hello!

It’s certainly not Easter anymore, is it? Sorry for the long blog absence. I assure you… I have been busy! We actually just moved houses in the middle of last month, so things were a little chaotic there for a while. But thankfully we’re all moved in and not completely surrounded by boxes anymore, and...

Looking forward…

Hello, long neglected blog. I have missed updating you. I’m still settling into life with a newborn (amazing how after only two years since my first I had already forgotten exactly how tiring it can be). But happily, he’s getting a bit more used to a nap schedule so I hope to do a lot...

little miss serious.

Meet S, who has just turned one year old. She has delightful curly hair, beautiful brown eyes, and a very “old soul” way about her. Her parents told me that she tended to take photo sessions very seriously, and that she did.

I really love the lighting and shadows in this next one. Sometimes (ok, all...

Little firecracker.

Belated 4th of July greetings to all of you! I hope that you all had a fantastic holiday, full of fireworks (or, as my 2 year old calls them, “the works!”), family and friends. My apologies for not blogging recently… I have lots to share with you, but I was out of the studio...

mr. a’s third session.

On a rainy and overcast day a while back, I ventured to the Mitchell Park Domes to photograph little Mr. A on the occasion of his being approximately 9 months old and extremely adorable. A is one of my baby plan babies, and it is always a delight for me to see his smiley little...

bundle of energy.

It’s funny how photo sessions seem to go in spurts. I’ll photograph 3 newborns in a week, then 3 six month olds… and lately the common trend has been 3 year old girls. It’s a fun age… not the easiest generally from a photographer’s standpoint, but always entertaining and burns off the calories. This...

prepare yourself.

There is an overabundance of cuteness headed your way over the next week or so. I know I have been a bad blogger, but the reason for that is that I’ve been really busy with photo sessions! (good excuse?) And what makes me really happy is that we’ve been able to go outside again. Don’t...

Ballerina princesses and fairy tales.

This family session had not just one, but two adorable little girls. Big sis B was quite a dancer, and enjoyed spinning around the studio and laughing with her doll.  Sweet little sis R was beyond adorable with her sweet little cheeks, gorgeous blue eyes, and floppy hair. As the mom to a little boy,...

Sugar and spice.

Time for a few photos from one of my Baby Sprouts clients. I have photographed this little girl twice before — her newborn photos and her three month session. I am continually amazed by her eyes. Their color is like nothing I have really ever seen before… such a lovely shade of blue gray. ...

Learnfest recap.

Well, I’m back and now trying to get caught up on sessions as well as figure out what I want to do with all the information I learned in the last week. Learnfest was fantastic. I loved having the opportunity to hear from some truly amazing women… and I’m talking about not only the instructors...
