welcome.

Hello and welcome to my photoblog. I am delighted to have you here! This blog serves as a way of sharing my most recent photo sessions with clients and their family and friends, and is also the first place to hear recent announcements about the studio as well as special blog-reader only discounts.

I am a primarily natural light portrait photographer based out of Madison, Wisconsin. My focus is on babies, children and families, although I also love to shoot a limited number of weddings per year. My portrait sessions take place entirely on location -- either at your home or at another location around Madison. I love to explore new places, so I'm very open to your suggestions. And of course, I have some favorite spots that I'm always ready to explore again as well.

In addition to my blog, please also check out my main website (it is the "my website" link on the menu above). If you have any questions or would like to book a session, please click on the "contact me" link in the menu above to send me an e-mail. Thanks again for stopping by, and please enjoy your visit!

My approach toward photography is deceptively simple: catch real moments of your children really being themselves. Silly giggles, sweet kisses from mommy, tickles from a big sister, laughing while watching doggie run through the park... These are the moments that make up real life. These are the moments from childhood that pass by all too fast. And these moments, to me, are where the real beauty of childhood resides. The same philosophy governs my approach to wedding photography.

My style is largely photojournalistic and non-obtrusive, while at the same time I am always working to create beautiful and lasting memories of life as it unfolds. The most common words used to describe my photographs are the ones I have chosen as the tagline for my studio: Modern. Fun. Real. Life. People often comment that my photographs have a sense of warmth and emotion to them -- which I consider the highest compliment possible.

This was a very special wedding for me. Not only because every part of it, from the venue to the ceremony music to the extraordinary details at the reception, was just so incredibly creative. But also because I was there from the beginning… or at least from the beginning of their engagement. Way back in...

the epitome of autumn.

I had to make a lot of collages for this blog post, so that I wouldn’t totally overwhelm you all with the sheer number of images. I am in love with this photo session. The little girl was cute beyond words, so very happy, and had some of the most soulful eyes I have ever...

I couldn’t resist.

Whew… it’s been a busy couple of weeks, but it’s all worth it for the chance to shoot outside in one of the most beautiful autumn seasons I can remember for some time. I know I won’t get a chance to edit this whole session right away, but I also know that the momma of...

Spectacular finale.

This past Saturday, I photographed the wedding of Jennifer & Andrew. It was my final wedding of 2008. And wow, was it ever a wonderful way to end this wedding season. The bride and groom? Beautiful (inside and out). The wedding attire? Fabulous, especially the shoes and sunglasses. The venues? Divine, and I especially enjoyed...

A little bit of love.

I have another item to add to my constantly growing list of things to be thankful for. And that is the fact that somehow, through the magic of the internet and wonderful referrals from past clients and friends, I have managed to have some of the most fun, sweet, and lovely couples ask me to...

Beautiful. Joyful. Love.

Last night I had the distinct pleasure of photographing the wedding of two of the most lovely people I have ever met. Their wedding was simple, elegant, and so very *them*. Many of the pictures I processed in black and white because I thought it suited the vintage feel throughout all their wedding details....
